Genetic testing (also called DNA-based tests) is among the newest and most sophisticated of techniques used to test for genetic disorders which involves direct examination of the DNA molecule itself.

So the question is, How long are profiles left on the DNA Profile Databank? Why would you destroy a Databank sample? In this essay I will be writing about how long profiles are left on DNA profile Databank and why would people destroy a Databank sample.

All DNA Profile Databank samples, including the biological material provided by the donor and any sub-samples made during its analysis, are destroyed after being held by ESR which means the erythrocyte sedimentation rate , also called a sedimentation rate is the rate at which red blood cells deposit in a period of one hour for three months. This is done after a DNA profile has been generated from each sample and the DNA profiles are stored indefinitely in electronic form on the National DNA Database and are not typically removed. Databank samples can be destroyed and profiles removed from the NDD which stands for neurodegenerative diseases however, if the sample was taken with voluntary consent from the donor and that consent is withdrawn.
